I'm pretty excited about our project. The last topic we had was super hard to write about, and I think gap years is much more interesting. Our thesis, 'more students should consider gap years because it will help them gain greater focus, become independent, and build their resume' has a lot to expand on. I think both our video and essay will turn out great. I personally though would not take a gap year.
Our new topic is definitely easier, but our last one, to actually get something done about it, wasn't exactly a long shot, to get done that is. I received a call from the head of the traffic commission saying that they changed the timing on the 13 mile light turning into Groves, so the topic was fairly doable. The writing part of it is a different story, we couldn't come up with a decent thesis for it to save our lives. Gap years are a better topic not only because its easier to write on, but because they directly relate to everyone, whether adults had a choice to take one in the past, or students are considering them now.
Alright so I finished our movie. It's a total of six minutes right now. I will try and add more interview footage or information tonight. But there are only so many facts on gap years. I have teachers talking about how gap years DO help students gain focus, mature, and build their resume. Also Mr. Kolb talks about a student of his that took a year off for sports and it helped her resume. Then I have some information from college strategists on gap years and gap year program advisors. Thoughts?
That sounds great, we should review and compile all of the new information you have in class today, so that we can incorporate it into our project. We need info from credible sources such as the college strategists first and foremost, then we'll discuss it and build upon it. We should state our positions on gap years along with the people that we interviewed in the final product too, for good measure.
That sounds great. The teachers commits will help our thesis a lot, good job. How is the sound for the student interviews because it was pretty hard to hear them speak with all the background noise. Do we possibly need more crdible sources though or do you think that that teachers and strategists are good enough to make our point? I just wish that our student interviews were less awkward but i guess thats okay.
I'm so happy we found a new topic! I agree that the other one was way too difficult. Maddie, you did a great job on the video!! It's so good! I'm also glad that we are doing this topic because it is something that all students should consider. It might not be their cup of tea but at least they could look at the options that are out in the world for them to choose from. All of the voices sound really clear. It's fine if the interviews are awkward. The more awkward the better. I'm sure the presentation will go great tomorrow. Sorry I wasn't there to help out today!!
