Comparing Lucas Jackson and Randall Patrick McMurphy

  1. In both the card scene, fight scene and the hydrotherapy pannel scene the men are gaining respect. In the movie Lucas shows how beat up he's willing to get to not give up on the fight. He also puts in all his money when he doesnt even have a good hand, to trick his way into winning with nothing. And then McMurphy hurts his hands to lose a bet to the boys. In both the movie and book, Lucas and McMurphy go far to gain respect from the men theyre living with.

  2. McMurphy and Luke are both very stubborn, and like Maddy said, go to great lengths for respect. They have their differences too; McMurphy is loud and cocky, and hulking in comparison to his peers, whereas Luke is relatively quiet and keeps to himself, and clearly from the fight scene he isn't the tough guy. Even if Luke is as quiet as he is, that could actually just be his way of standing out.

  3. I agree strongly with Matt and Maddie. Both R.P McMurphy and Luke Jackson are very stubborn and will never give up. Both McMurphy and Luke somewhat assumed the role as the "leader" of the rest of the pack. It was a lot easier for McMurphy to become the "Bull-Goose Loony" because the men in the ward are a lot easier to manipulate than grown men who are in the same place as you because they have committed a crime. Also, both Luke and McMurphy are all for going against the "man", in this case Nurse Ratched and the Captain, to get what they want. Although they have a lot of similarities, I think that McMurphy is a little more kind hearted than Luke Jackson. McMurphy really seems to feel the need to protect the other patients in the ward where as Luke just thinks about himself and wants to put up his status and isn't for forming the kind of relationships that McMurphy formed.

  4. I agree Both Characters are extremely stubborn and take the role to change the status quoe. Also both characters are hilarious in there own ways, luke with his smart mouth and back talk, and Mcmurphy with his craziness and his sarcasim. Both Characters get the men behind them to stand up against those in power. Luke acting like a push-over and kissing no-eyes butt, then stealing the truck and escaping. Mcmurphy jumping over the fence and taking the group fishing. These acts of escaping got the men on there side.
